This conference is a call to highlight and share the theme: Building Real Bridges into Society for Children: How 'The Power of Adolescent Girls - can be - as Agents of Change. How can this introduce Adolescent Female youth in Sierra Leone to the tools and thoughts they need to be Agents of Socio-economic change to participate in Sierra Leone’s post-war rebuilding efforts an in the world? Girls faces isolation and a sense of powerlessness today in the world especially in Sierra Leone. Emotionally isolated by silence – not just their own silence, but their communities’ silence towards early marriage, early childbirth, sexual violence, HIV/AIDS and other results of girls’ social and economic vulnerability. The Theme will covers issues as health, democracy, post conflict reconstruction, women’s issues, Information technology, adult literacy, good governance and community development. This conference will show the way forward on empowering the girl child, aiming to change the status and breed a more holistic image of Sierra Leone to the International community. The focus of the 2008-2009 Innovations seminar series is Reggio-inspired perspectives on inclusion including consideration of children from diverse cultures/contexts, children as citizens of their community and stewards of the natural world, and children with special rights. The December and February seminars will closely follow the process of investigations with children from inception to conclusion. The April seminar will explore the concept of capturing moments of learning and relationships among children.
